The Eyes of the Scarecrow

I'm beginning to do some preliminary work on "The Lost Stories of Oz," to see if we can make them work. It would be a LOT of line drawings, because there are something like twelve of these stories! The good news is that they all feature pretty much the same eight characters, so if we can get those to work, we might have a chance.

The bad news is that AI is terrible at helping us draw the Scarecrow. (I haven't started on the Tin Woodman yet.) Look at AI's first attempt:

Part of the problem is that the original scarecrow's face is asymmetrical, and AI doesn't mimic that very well. Look at how different are the size of the scarecrow's eyes in Neill's original:

Happily, AI's not too bad at drawing the scarecrow's body, although it uses way more lines than John R Neill would have used. I'm still experimenting, but I'm thinking I might need to use some parts of AI, like the body, draw some other parts (like the hands), and use Neill's original lines for the face. Here's my first attempt at that:

This is AI's body, my cornfield and pole, and Neill's original face. If I have to do this each and every time we need a Scarecrow picture, I might need to tell Jordan we can't do "The Lost Stories." On second thought, Jordan scares me. I'll get Evan to tell her.
