Adventure awaits when Princess Ozma uses her magical picture to discover two lost children within a gloomy forest. Determined to help, she sends the ever-loyal Jack Pumpkinhead, riding his trusty Sawhorse, on a rescue mission. They locate the children tied to a tree, accused of stealing nuts by the stern King of the Squirrels. As Jack bravely unties the children, an unfortunate accident occurs – a falling branch strikes him, smashing his pumpkin head. Displaying remarkable resourcefulness, the Sawhorse carries Jack's headless body and the rescued children out of the perilous forest. Their journey concludes when the Wizard of Oz finds them and skillfully restores Jack with a brand-new pumpkin head. This exciting tale, brought to life with vivid new illustrations in the style of John R. Neill, highlights themes of bravery, loyalty, and the unexpected heroism found in the most unique of Oz's inhabitants. The story underscores the importance of teamwork and the unwavering support of friends in overcoming challenges, even when those challenges involve a temporarily headless pumpkin-headed companion.
