A starving creature, a humble act of mercy, and a clutch of eggs that shine like winter moonlight. For a kind-hearted young woman, saving a helpless weasel from a slow death feels like a simple kindness, untouched by thoughts of fortune.
Until the grateful weasel rewards her with a magical gift, turning her ordinary hen into the source of gleaming silver eggs and boundless wealth.
What begins as a miraculous blessing quickly spirals into a dark, testing journey of temptation, where the weight of silver threatens to corrupt her soul and a return trip to the forest reveals whether friendship or greed will rule the day.
Adapted and illustrated by Albin Ingelherner from a forgotten folktale by Franz Xaver von Schönwerth, Silver Eggshells marries lyrical, rhythmic verse with lavish, lush, and detailed oil paintings that evoke the dark mystery and romance of a world long ago and far away.
